Concussion Therapy After
An Auto Accident

What is a Concussion?
A concussion—also called a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)—is not a bruise or a bump you can see on a scan. It’s a temporary change in how your brain works after a sudden jolt or impact; it is NOT “brain damage”. It’s caused by your brain being shaken inside your skull, not by hitting your head. That’s why you don’t need to lose consciousness—or even hit your head—to have a concussion.
How Does It Happen?
Think of it like this: during a car crash, your head might whip forward and backward suddenly. That motion stretches and pulls tiny fibers in your brain, creating a chemical imbalance that makes your brain less efficient. This results in symptoms like:
- Headaches
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Fatigue
- Difficulty focusing
- Irritability or anxiety
- Trouble sleeping
- Sensitivity to light or sound
Why Concussions Can Be Confusing
Sometimes symptoms show up right away. Sometimes they don’t show up for days. And even if you feel better in a week, your brain might still be healing inside. That’s why it’s important not to ignore even mild symptoms.
